Field Trip to North Pine Valley recommended wilderness addition on August 15, 2005

Heavy rain fell in the Pine Valley areas on Saturday and Sunday the weekend before we had scheduled a field trip with the Washington County Commission to visit the area north of the existing Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness that we are recommending for addition to the existing wilderness. Some people had planned to ride horses into the area. Trail conditions precluded us from making a safe trip by horseback. Because it was too late to cancel effectively, we decided to reschedule (date to be decided still) the horseback trip.

Three hearty hikers decided to brave the elements and explore some of the recommended area on foot. We travelled along the White Rocks Trail from the trailhead near the Rencher Ranch to White Rocks Reservoir. We saw some beautiful country.

Have you ever been in this area? What are your thoughts about our recommendation? Do you have suggestions about how we can improve our recommended boundaries?

Let us know what you think.

  1. Yes–let’s add to the extant Pine Valley Wilderness–especially the north end.
