Rules of the Dixie and Fishlake Blog

Filed under: General — Kenton Call on August 23, 2005 @ 1:43 pm

We hope you will embark with us on this exciting blog adventure. Here are some thoughts we have on this blog.

We hope this becomes a forum for meaningful discussion about the issues we must deal with in forest planning. We have been engaged in this forest planning effort for several years. We anticipate having a draft plan in the winter of 2006. We also think we can finish our planning effort by fall 2006. As we move toward these mileposts we hope to use this blog (a new tool to us) to test drive in real time some of the ideas we are considering in our planning effort. The blog will be one tool in our toolbox for getting your ideas. We will continue to use our website, newsletters, our project mailing list (if you are not on this list or unsure email me ckcall@fs.fed.us and I will check), as well as occassional and focussed public workshops and open houses. If you have ideas about better ways to get you and other interested people involved in our effort, please let us know.

Now for the rules, the rules are simple. First, be respectful of others who participate (we will edit any comments that are mean-spirited). Second, do not post any obsenities or inappropriate material (this will be grounds for banishment from our forum).

Two additional notes on expectations: First, we do not intend to consider blog postings as official comments. We do not intend to respond to everything that people post in the forum. This being said, we look forward to reading the dialogue and anticipate that meaningful discussions that take place here will help us refine our plan revision thoughts. Second, the Forest Service will be the primary author of initial blog topics, if you would like us to begin a discussion topic and share some Forest Service perspective on that topic, then we would be happy to work with you to “co-author” other topics (email ckcall@fs.fed.us or call me at (435) 865-3730 if you would like to explore this option).

Other thoughts on rules?

We hope you are as excited about this neat venue as we are!
