Plan Revision Update March 2006

Filed under: General, Plan Revision Updates, Announcements/Upcoming Events — Kenton Call on March 22, 2006 @ 7:12 pm

It has been a while since we last checked in with folks on the blog. My apologies. We hope you will continue to find this venue informative and timely. Here is a quick update.

Internal Collaboration: Over the last couple months, the Dixie and Fishlake Planning Team has done a substantial amount of collaboration with other Forest Service employees on the two forests. We have utilized the expertize of over 100 people in developing and responding to our proposals. This internal collaboration will give us a better document when we release it for public review in the near future.

Working on a Proposed Plan: Over the next couple months, the planning team will attempt to polish the Proposed Plan for public review. The public review of the Proposed Plans will take place likely sometime in Summer 2006. We may release the document prior to a 90-day comment period and initiate that 90-comment period sometime around mid-summer. Because there are a lot of things we have to do to polish the information up for public review, the date of the release and review is a “shifty target.” We will let you know as soon as we possibly can about the release and review.

Prior to the release and review, we will send a postcard out to our mailing list (if you are not on our mailing list and would like to be, please contact me ckcall@fs.fed.us) to assess your preferences for format of the document. We will encourage people to use the web version and will likely post sections here on the blog, but there will be a limited number of CDs and hard copies for those who request that format.

Forest Plan Revision Summit in Cedar City: Finally, we have schedule the dates of June 28 and 29 in Cedar City, Utah for a Forest Plan Revision Summit. This Summit will be the capstone of our public collaboration. We hope you will plan to attend. It will be held at Southern Utah University. We are asking for your input as we plan the objectives, topics for discussion, and format of the Summit. Please blog us about your ideas. There is a new topic area on the blog to hold this dialogue.

Any questions or comments about our schedule and plans?
