Plan Summit Conference Call Summary #2 - Your Thoughts?
Here are the notes from the April 24, 2006 call, we’d love your thoughts.
PLAN SUMMIT CONFERENCE CALL #2 SUMMARY
April 24, 2006
There were eight past planning participants on the second conference call to plan the Plan Summit in June 2006. The bulk of these participants were also on the first call.
We discussed the following topics: draft agenda (see blog post), keynote speaker, sponsors, outreach, and notes and suggestions from call #1 (primarily Mary O’Brien’s comment on the blog).
We will convene a third call on Monday, May 1, 11 am to noon. If you would like to join us, please respond here and I will get you the call-in information.
Please note that we have included two new posts in response to the discussion on this conference call (one comment to the draft agenda – (and a forthcoming revision to the agenda) and one post about objectives).
Here is my summary of our discussions:
Draft Agenda (see comment and revised agenda (forthcoming)): There were suggestions to cut back the time for keynote speaker and move a couple of the topics (national policy discussion and TWiG panel) around a bit. I will attempt to do so in a revised agenda. Additionally, a suggestion was made to make sure that Open House displays be available for the duration of the two days. This can be accommodated. We also need to reflect that we will be sponsoring a BBQ the night of the first day. Your suggestions about the agenda are welcome here.
Keynote Speaker: We are still searching for a suitable keynote speaker. We all agreed that Mary O’Brien’s identified desirable qualities for a keynote speaker (we hope to have a keynote speaker who can be engaging, “acknowledge that there are competing and sometimes mutually exclusive desires,…reflect on forest planning and collaboration, and on the potential for shared responsibility for handing on the legacy of ecologically and economically healthy forests to future generations”) were appropriate. I will be working with the Forest Supervisors to try and identify someone we can ask to keynote the Summit. You suggestions in the next few days are welcome!
Sponsors: We will approach a variety of different sponsors to help cover the cost of breakfast (two mornings) and 5 or 6 breaks (drinks) during the two days. The planning committee decided that it would prefer to ask participants who desire to attend the BBQ to pay for themselves. Remember there is going to be no registration fee for the Summit. The BBQ would cost no more than $15.00 (and hopefully less). If you would like to help sponsor the Summit, we would appreciate your support. Please let us know if you have any suggestions about sponsorships.
Outreach: I will be sending out a postcard to announce the workshop in the next couple weeks. We will gauge numbers by returned cards. We hope you will pass the word along to others who might be interested about our Summit. Concerns or suggestions, post them here.
Suggestions after First Call: See Mary O’Brien comment on first call. We discussed some of the suggestions we received on the first call. As a result we are seeking additional feedback on our Summit objectives (see objectives post).
Finally, there was a suggestion on today’s call that we describe where Cedar City is and why someone may want to visit the area in June. I will post some Cedar City information on another post. It is a delightful place and feel free to google the city for more information.
