We’d like your thoughts on the desired conditions for Backcountries

Filed under: Special Areas, Seeking Comments on These Draft Documents — Kenton Call on December 20, 2005 @ 4:56 pm

In the Strategy section of our draft Revised Forest Plans (set for release sometime between March and May 2006), we have a section on special areas. This section is split between congressionally designated special areas and administratively designated areas. Backcountry is one of the administrative designations we are contemplating using.

We would like your thoughts on the language we are working on for this designation. Please feel free to comment to the blog about this section, to ask questions or clarifications, we’d like to stimulate a discussion about this topic. If you have any trouble figuring out how to comment, please call me at (435) 865-3730 or email me at ckcall@fs.fed.us.

Field Trip to Boulder Rim Cancelled

Filed under: Special Areas, Announcements/Upcoming Events, Field Trips — Kenton Call on October 11, 2005 @ 9:52 am

Due to potential weather problems and lack of interest expressed, we will are cancelling the field trip previously planned for October 13 to the Boulder Rim area of the Teasdale RD.

This is an area we are potentially considering for additional backcountry designation (we recieved several comments on our Management Direction Package suggesting this). If you would like details about our thinking, please call, email, or stop by to talk with us. In the near future, we will provide a draft proposal for some of this area on our blog in preparation for a draft plan in January.

Feel free to comment here if you have any thoughts or questions.

Filed under: Special Areas, Seeking Comments on These Draft Documents, Special Areas — Kenton Call on September 30, 2005 @ 5:35 pm

Here are the revised Special Areas section for the Dixie and Fishlake NFs. We anticipate many more changes leading up to our draft Revised Forest Plans in January 06.

We still need to do some work on the boundaries for special areas. We hope you can help us think through this question over the next several months.

We’d love your feedback on these documents. We have done some significant work on our definition of backcountry. Please let us know what you think….

Beehive Peak Field Trip

Filed under: Special Areas, Announcements/Upcoming Events, Field Trips — Kenton Call on September 16, 2005 @ 3:59 pm

We have moved the Beehive Peak Field Trip from October 6 to October 24. We will be doing an auto tour of the area. We will meet at the Fishlake National Forest Offices in Richfield at 9am. Bring a lunch and plan to spend the bulk of the day touring the area and discussing the proposed backcountry designation and the Fishlake OHV route designation decisions for this area.

Please RSVP to me at (435) 865-3730 so that we can plan for numbers and warn people if we need to change plans because of inclement weather.
